A drum and lyre corps is a marching ensemble consisting of strictly percussion
instruments and a color guard section. The Drum and Lyre corps originated in the Philippines,
as it is easier to finance than brass bands or a drum and bugle corps.
The instrumentation of a drum and lyre corps consists of a typical marching band
(snare, tenor, and bassdrums, and cymbals) with the addition of a lyre section.
Lyre sections consist of bell lyres,the glockenspiels,is a set of tuned metal bars arranged on a tray or
in a frame in keyboard fashion for marching band. as well as vibraphones and marimbas.
During competitions, drum and lyre corps usually include a pit section which consists of the
typical pit instruments used by drum and bugle corps.

The Mechanics
1. Groups must abide by the eligibility of Drum & Lyre Competition.
2. The competition is open to all public and private elementary schools.
3. Application forms are available at the Bula Barangay Hall.
Deadline of submission of application forms is on October 1, 2015, 5 PM at
Bula Barangay Hall. The following documents must be submitted together with the
application form:
• List of band members
• Certification from the Principal (that the members are indeed grade school
students of their school)
• Waiver
4. Each competing unit should be not less than 40 and not more than 100 members.
5. Mechanical instruments, electronics or motor engines are not allowed. Only batons and
flags and other props such as pompoms, banners, etc. are allowed to be used.
Ten points will be deducted from the total points of the team violating this particular
guideline.
6. The Drum & Lyre Group and the Majorette Corps shall be judged as one competing unit.
70% of the aggregate score of the Drum & Lyre Group and 30% of the aggregate score
of the Majorette Corps shall be the total points earned. The total points shall be the
basis for the final ranking.
7. No deduction shall be made for the dropping of baton.
8. Judging and time count shall commence from the start of the first beat excluding entry
into the performance area. All performances shall not be less than five minutes and
not exceed ten minutes.Ten points shall be deducted from the total score if the duration
of the performance is not within the time limit.
9. No coach, school head, or school coordinator shall be allowed to go near the judges.
10. Criteria for Judging is as follows:
DRUM AND LYRE (70%)
• Master Piece (Precision of attacks and release, rhythm and tempo) 30%
• Total Quality (Clarity and harmony) 25%
• Interpretation (Technique, style and choreography) 25%
• General Impact (Smartness in uniform and deportment) 20%

MAJORETTE CORPS (30%)
• Baton Twirling 35%
• Style and Interpretation 30%
• Choreography 20%
• General Impact 15%
Total 100%
11. Protests are prohibited and will not be accepted regarding any score or result of a decision.
12. Discrepancies in the Rules and/or Competition: Any problem or discrepancy during a competition
will be brought to the attention of the competition organizer who will address it with the
Head Judge, and/or event committee, and the respective decision(s) made will be final.
13. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.
